Chew Your Food's Horror Gimmick Steals Your Eye, Splits Your POV Permanently

A solo developer is pushing the boundaries of disempowerment in survival horror with Chew Your Food, an upcoming game that will permanently alter the player’s perspective after a monster steals their left eye. This unique mechanic, described as “overwhelming” by its creator, aims to heighten the sense of vulnerability crucial to the genre.

After the gruesome event, players will navigate the world with a split display: the right side renders the environment in real-time, while the left eye’s view is replaced by frame-by-frame, picture-based animations. This dual visual feed is designed to be jarring and contribute significantly to the player’s ongoing feeling of vulnerability and unease.

The developer behind Chew Your Food notes that the idea for this unconventional perspective originated from a YouTube video exploring the unique camera angles and viewpoints utilized in Driver: San Francisco. This inspiration led to a desire to implement something similarly “quirky” to challenge player perception in a horror context.

While still in development, Chew Your Food is already generating interest on platforms like Reddit, where the unique premise was recently shared to significant community engagement. Players eager to experience this disorienting take on survival horror can add Chew Your Food to their Steam wishlist now.
