Elemental Lands Replaces Placeholder Art, Aims for Stronger Identity
The solo developer behind turn-based tactical card battler Elemental Lands is updating the game with professional new artwork, replacing earlier placeholder assets.
The long-in-development indie title Elemental Lands is set to receive a significant visual overhaul, as its solo creator announces the integration of professional artwork into the game. This move aims to give the tactical card battler a much-needed identity and polish, addressing earlier feedback that struggled to look past the initial placeholder visuals.
Elemental Lands, which has been a solo development project for over a year, has already garnered positive feedback on its core gameplay loop. Players have praised its combat system, featuring capturable objectives, and its distinctive board game-style campaign map. However, the developer noted that the placeholder art had become a significant barrier, preventing new players from fully appreciating the mechanics.
“It feels so much better to have a pro to work with,” the developer shared, expressing enthusiasm for the new collaboration. While the original placeholder art — created by a friend — had served its purpose, the transition to professional assets is expected to elevate the game’s aesthetic significantly and provide a cohesive visual style that truly reflects its design.
The game itself is described as a turn-based tactical card battler infused with roguelite upgrades, suggesting a blend of strategic depth and replayability. Its unique blend of card-based combat, board game elements, and persistent progression has been the backbone of its early positive reception, which the new art is now poised to complement.
Currently, the game’s Steam page still features the older placeholder artwork, but an update is anticipated to showcase these new professional designs, offering a fresh look that the developer hopes will finally capture player attention and convey the game's true potential.
