Rise of the Cones: Planetary Defense
Solo dev releases their dream 3D tower defense game after 1.5 years of development
A solo developer has just released their debut game, Rise of the Cones: Planetary Defense, a 3D tower defense game with a realistic sci-fi look.
Developed entirely by one person using Godot, the game was originally intended to have a much larger scope, including customizable hero units and modular towers. However, to make the project viable, these features were cut, and the developer instead focused on creating a more streamlined experience.
The game's enemies, cone-shaped creatures, were initially intended to be placeholder shapes, but the developer decided to incorporate them into the game's lore, citing the time-saving benefits of not having to model, sculpt, rig, and animate more complex creatures.
After 1.5 years of development, the game is now available on Steam, marking a significant milestone for the solo developer, who admits to feeling both terrified and excited about sharing their work with the public.
Rise of the Cones: Planetary Defense is available to purchase and play now, and it will be interesting to see how the game is received by players and what the future holds for this solo developer.
