Runway: Kick Models Off the Catwalk in this Y2K Arcade Throwback

Get ready to unleash your inner fashion rebel, as unSAME, a small indie studio, has announced the upcoming Steam release of Runway, a Y2K-styled arcade game where players take on the role of a robot whose sole mission is to crash fashion shows. Slated for an April launch, the game promises a satisfying, over-the-top experience rooted in stylish chaos.

Runway puts players in the metallic shoes of Lisa, a robot determined to professionally disrupt the world of high fashion. The core gameplay loop is deceptively simple: two buttons, “kick” and “pose.” Kicks send unsuspecting models flying, while striking a pose unleashes a powerful blast that clears the stage. This direct, impactful control scheme aims for a consistently “fabulous” and satisfying feel with every press.

The game’s concept was born from a unique source of inspiration—developer unSAME’s own high school frustrations, specifically a failed fashion show. This desire to “kick everyone off the stage” was poured into Runway, giving it a distinct personality. Beyond the destructive core, players can also customise Lisa’s look from a selection of over 30 shirts, pants, and hats, before strutting down runways in iconic cities like Paris, Milan, NYC, London, Seoul, Shenzhen, and Tokyo.

Developed by a team of three, Runway is a significant title for unSAME, as it’s described as the game that effectively launched their studio. With a track record of shipping more than 50 mini-games on itch.io, the team is now bringing this early, passion-fueled project to a wider audience on Steam. Players can look forward to diving into its unique brand of fashionable mayhem later this spring.
