Indie developer David Elliot has officially launched the demo for Tiny Towers, his incremental tower defense game, on Steam. The release comes after a challenging nine-month development period, marked by significant personal hurdles that tested the resolve of the game's co-creator.
Elliot, who worked on Tiny Towers alongside artist RKO, shared that the past year has been one of the most difficult times of his life. Facing a layoff and months of job searching, he balanced simultaneous part-time work and development on the game, all while caring for three young children, including a newborn. His candid post underscored the immense dedication often required to bring an independent project to fruition.
Tiny Towers is described as an incremental tower defense title, a genre known for its blend of strategic depth and satisfying progression loops. RKO is credited with crafting the game’s visuals, which are now available for players to experience firsthand through the newly released demo. The demo provides a substantial slice of the game, inviting players to dive into its mechanics and visual style.
Elliot expressed a sense of relief and pride in finally being able to share a part of the game he and RKO are happy with, calling it “a miracle that we've even made it this far.” He encouraged community feedback, indicating a desire to continue improving the game. Notably, Elliot also disclosed that while AI was used for high-level architecture brainstorming and debugging in the coding process, no AI was involved in the creation of any art, music, assets, or core game design.
